Garment Sewing Techniques #1

Nick Coman Once you have a basic pattern, what do you do with it? What are the techniques that make them special?
Come to this "Notebook" class and try different seam and hem finishes, learn how to put in zippers (regular and invisible), make tiny piping. Finally learn how to use that blind hem foot and have a nice finished edge that looks more like a hand sewn hem.
$5.00 Kit Fee
Kit includes: cording, chiffon for hand and machine hems and page protectors for finished samples.

Supply List:

Sewing Machine that is in good working order, that you are familiar with.
Any accessory feet that came with your machine. Make sure you have a blind hem foot, a manual buttonhole foot, an open toe foot, a zipper foot, and any that you may have purchased up to this point. (We may not use them all, but it is nice to have them to demonstrate alternate techniques where appropriate)
Two yards of medium weight muslin, washed and pressed, and cut into 6" strips. The rest of the cutting will be done in class.
3- 9" nylon coil zippers
1- 18" nylon coil invisible zipper
Marking tools. You may use either water soluble, chalk or just plain pencil.
Hand Sewing supplies. Sharps and betweens needles (whatever size is most comfortable to you), 50 or 60 weight cotton thread, thread heaven, snips, and a thimble if you use one.
Basic sewing supplies, scissors, rotary cutter, mat, rulers (have one small enough to measure a button hole) pins, stiletto etc.
