Shirt Making 101

Dragonfly Threads

Supply List:

• Shirt Pattern with convertible or stand (2piece) collar, and either long or short sleeves.
• Fabric, Interfacing (sew in or fusible ) and buttons according to the pattern package.
• Sewing thread to match or coordinate with the shirt
• 12/80 Micotex Sharp Machine Needles
• Hand Sewing needles, either sharps or betweens size 10 or 12
• Regular and Open toe or clear pressure foot for your sewing machine
• Roxanne's Glue Baste
• Point Turner
• Scissors and Rotory cutter with Mat
• Basic Sewing Supplies Pins, rulers, tape measure, Water soluble marking pen, cellophane tape 1/2" inch wide, Seam ripper. Thread snips, Metal or leather thimble, thread heaven or Bees wax.
• Sewing machine that you are familiar with and is in good working order.

Skirt Making 101

Dragonfly ThreadsLearn how to draft a basic straight skirt to fit your body, then alter it any way you want to make it your own. A-line, 6 gore, 8 gore, pegged, add godets...all sorts of options you can do to make one of the seasons hot clothing items. Once you have your skirt drafted, watch for a pants class coming in the near future that uses the skirt pattern for a start!!!

Supply List:

• Wide freezer paper or butcher paper to draft a pattern on
• Pencils with eraser and sharpener
• 18" ruler, yard stick or long ruler
• Hip curve or Large French curve (Instructor will supply some of these to share)
• 60" tape measure
• Sewing machine in good working order
• Basic sewing supplies, including hand needles, Wonder tape, air soluble pen
• Muslin or gingham for test skirt (yardage indicated on pattern package)
• Zipper, regular or invisible
• Waist measurements length of 1/2" non roll elastic
• Note taking materials

Skirt Styling

Dragonfly ThreadsTake a skirt sloper and let Nick show you how to create a number of different patterns from the basic straight skirt. A-line, gored, circle, slinky, bias, wrap, and the list goes on. Once you have the basic technique, your imagination is your only limit!

Supply List:

• 1/2" scale Skirt Sloper available from www.pattern.stringcodes.com (they also do custom full scale slopers if you wish to order one of those as well.)
• A couple of manila file folders to mount sloper patterns on.
• 505 to mount slopers to folders
• Paper to draft with (I get the 36" wide craft paper from Staples)
• Pencils, Colored Pencils, erasers, rulers, yard stick, tape measure, Paper scissors, Glue stick, tape
• 1"x6" ruler and 2" or 3" x 18" ruler, preferably clear. (not wood)
